More Batman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice/Marvel Diss
According to a source from Heroic Hollywood, WB and DC are very happy with Ben Affleck’s Batman. So happy, that they are rumored to be planning to add even more Batman to the upcoming DC Comics film Batman v Superman Dawn of Justice. This of course has Superman fans on high alert, since a lot of people read this as “Superman’s screen time is being cut”.
In an interview with the Daily Beast, director and DC films headhoncho Zack Snyder did talk a bit about Batman’s bigger role in BvS.
“Only in that because it’s a different Batman than the Batman that was in the Chris Nolan movies, so we have a little bit more explaining to do—and you just had a whole Superman movie. But I think only in that way, because you need to understand where Batman is with everything. And that’s more toward the beginning, but it evens back out as it goes on.”
Sounds fine to me. I wouldn’t expect Superman to lose much ground to Batman in BvS, but still think that Batman will become the anchor character of the DC film universe, like Iron Man is for the MCU for example, which makes a lot of sense. Why shouldn’t DC use their most popular character to sell other heroes to the general audience as well.
The internet was also up in arms about Snyder’s apparent diss towards Marvel from the same interview.
“It’s a tricky process, setting up the DC universe, or Justice League. The credit goes to Chris Nolan because he set the die for the DC Universe in a great way that I tried to emulate. I look at it as more being mythological than, say, bubblegum. And I think that that’s appropriate for Batman and Superman because they’re the most mythological of our superheroes.”
and after talking about if he worries about Steven Spielbergs comments on the superhero movie dying out in a few years, because of oversaturation he had this to say.
“It goes to the mythological nature of the movies that we’re making. I feel like he’s right. But I feel like Batman and Superman are transcendent of superhero movies in a way, because they’re Batman and Superman. They’re not just, like, the flavor of the week Ant-Man—not to be mean, but whatever it is. What is the next Blank-Man?”
While this is certainly a small shot against Marvel, I don’t think it is worth all the anger and outrage. Snyder only talks about the fact that Marvel are instrumental in the oversaturation, by bringing B or C superhero characters to the screens, which is definitely true (and I loved Ant-Man, by the way). Marvel has taken their fair share of shots against DC in the last couple of years, so I think its fine for DC to shoot back every once in a while.
Godzilla vs. King Kong Movie In The Works
VS. movies seem to be the new thing in hollywood. Next year will bring us Batman vs. Superman, Iron Man vs. Captain America, Daredevil vs. Punisher and it looks like Warner Bros. is already planning another big brawl of titans: King Kong vs. Godzilla! The Legendary Pictures production “Kong: Skull Island” is moving studios from Universal to Warner Bros., who also distribute Legendary’s Godzilla movie franchise. This is being done to position both franchises with the same studios, to make a crossover versus movie happen in the future. “Kong: Skull Island” has a release date for 2017 and an unnamed Godzilla sequel is set for 2018, so maybe this will already be the big versus project.
There is only one question… how big do they wanna make King Kong, so he has any legitimate chance against the new Godzilla, who is an enormous beast. We will probably find out as soon as the first “Kong: Skull Island” trailer hits the web.
New Look At Apocalypse From The Next X-Men Movie
(IMAGE REMOVED ON REQUEST FROM 20TH CENTURY FOX)
We might have a new image of the updated look of Apocalypse (above), X-Men baddie extraordinaire from the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse movie. While the official Entertainment Weekly cover a few months back showed him looking not as cool/close to the source as many people would have liked…
… the new picture looks a lot better. We have to thank X-men News from twitter for this find. There were also new images of Cyclops and Nightcrawler, but disappointingly they both are shown wearing the Singer X-Men typical black military inspired costumes, instead of the yellow and blue X-Men costumes from the comics, which is a shame when we get a Psylocke and maybe now an Apocalypse who both look so close to the comics.
I am still very excited about the upcoming movie, especially because they reintroduce my favorite X-Man Cyclops back into the fold. Let’s just hope Singer doesn’t turn him into the boy band loving douchebag from the movies for a second time.
Co-writer Michael Dougherty also talked a bit with IGN about his writing of the movie adn Apocalypse.
“The way that Bryan [Singer] approaches the ‘X-Men’ franchise is, making it as realistic as possible and as grounded as possible. With someone like Apocalypse, that’s tricky because he’s literally such a giant character. Take the idea that the first mutant is worshipped as a deity, the character kind of writes himself.”
HISHE Posts 10th Anniversary Musicvideo With Batman From BvS
The talented guys and gals from How It Should Have Ended on youtube are having their 10th anniversary this year, which they celebrate with a, how could it be different, Batman and Superman themed musicvideo parody of Taylor Swift song “Bad Blood”, retitled “Bat Blood”. It is sort of a fight song from Batman in preparation toward BvS next year, but also a great celebration of 10 years HISHE (which I have been following for exactly 10 years too. Time flies. I feel so old.), filled with a lot of cameos from their coolest animated version of movie characters, like Doc Brown, Furiosa, Grant Gustin’s Flash, Harry Potter, Han Solo and more. Check it out and stay on until after the credits to not miss on batman Superman discussing the video in the Supercafe! And remember: bandaids don’t fix building holes!
Hawkman and Hawkgirl Revealed
The CW has released the first look at suited up Hawkman and Hawkgirl for their upcoming DC Comics show “Legends of Tomorrow”, which will launch next Spring. Both characters will first appear on the “Flash and “Arrow” crossover event this year. They will also stay pretty faithful to their comic book counterparts, according to executive producer Phil Klemmer revealed.
“The way we’ve imagined them is that they’ve obviously been reincarnated through the ages together, but the fact that he remembers their previous lives and she doesn’t… it gives them very much like a Bogie & Bacall sort of [relationship],”
The Flash and Arrow start their respective second and fourth seasons very soon and I am already excited, but Legends of Tomorrow could turn out to be on a whole nother level! We will find out early next year!
Suicide Squad Plot Rumor
According to Heroic Hollywood the main plot for WB/DC Comic’s upcoming Suicide Squad movie has been leaked. It is not a huge spoiler, but those who want to remain 100% in the dark about the plot should probably skip the next paragraph.
According to their sources Heroic Hollywood thinks that Cara Delevigne’s character Enchantress will be the main badguy of the film. She is on a quest to revive her dead brother and gets occult powers in the process, which then threaten the whole world. The Suicide Squad then has to go after her and stop that from happening.
As a main plot line it is not a bad idea, but I kinda hoped that the Squad is actually after Joker in the movie. As a huge Joker fan, I want as much Joker as I can get, of course. We will see how his role will play out, if he is not the main bad guy. Maybe he is only there for Harley’s origin flashbacks? We will find out summer next year, when Suicide Squad enters out theatres.
Eva Green/Sean Bean Rumored For Wonder Woman Roles
Heroic Hollywood had quite a week, as the next rumor also originated with them. It seems like WB are looking for Eva Green (300: Rise of an Empire, Penny Dreadfull, Sin City 2) is being looked at for the role of sorceress Circe, while Sean Bean (Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings and a lot of other movies where he dies before the end) is wanted to play greek god of war Ares.
Cate Blanchett has also been wanted for a part in the movie (Wonder Woman’s mother Hippolita or goddess Hera eventually), but has declined the offer.
Wonder Woman is being directed by Patty Jenkins and will go before cameras in London in November this year. Gal Gadot plays Diana/Wonder Woman, who will have her first appearance in next years Batman v Superman Dawn of Justice. You can catch the first glimpse of her as WW in the BvS Comic Con 2015 trailer.
