Batman v Superman Trailer 2
You probably all have already seen the newest trailer for next years Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. If not check it out above, or watch it (like me) for the 50th time. Instead of talking about what’s in it I will give you my opinion on this, seemingly very controversial trailer:
I loved it. It’s that simple. I have been a cheerleader for this film since I left the theatre for Man of Steel and this trailer only reinforced my hope that this will be the best superhero film of the next year. Ben Affleck’s Batman seems perfect, I love the quirky take on Lex (and don’t fool yourselves by thinking he won’t turn into the baldheaded creep we all know and love by the end of the movie), the added humor and even the Doomsday reveal. I really had geek tears all over my face while watching it the first time and jumped up and down on my couch, especially with the Doomsday reveal (which will probably be only his first form, as he evolves throughout the fight) and the trinity shot at the end. I honestly don’t get what there is to hate about it all. Yeah, it is very spoilery and maybe reveals too much, BUT that’s just the way trailers are today. Snyder’s cinematography is as amazing as I am used to here, as you can really screencap almost every image and have a nice wallpaper ready. It just looks like straight out of a comic. The action looks just as amazing as the visuals to me, so thats great too. The only drawback I have with it is that it is very CGI heavy, even in the backgrounds, but this is not a gritty crime film, like Nolan did Batman, but a giant sci-fi fantasy film with monsters and city wide destruction, so it is just not doable without CGI. Bonus: it looks like we might even get allusions to Darkseid in the nightmare/vision sequence, as some of Superman’s soldiers truly look a bit like Parademons! YOU CANNOT GO WRONG WITH PARADEMONS! Overall it feels a lot like a DC Comic, even brought back memories to the animated Justice League series by Bruce Timm, with the humor and hero interactions. I love every bit, every beat of it.
In related news, costume designer Michael Wilkinson gave an interview at a Brasil comic con about the film, the nightmare scene and even the Flash of the movie universe, who will be played by Ezra Miller and not Grant Gustin.
“It is a different look [for the nightmare Batsuit with the coat]. Zack had a great idea of this sort of nightmare-ish vision, almost a vision of the future, a post-apocalyptic vision. It’s like a dream that Ben has, so we wanted to, it has almost a ‘Mad Max’ quality to it where it’s like the end of the world, trying to survive and then of course Superman and his minions come, so it’s sort of a way of representing the amazing amounts of, the sort of obsessive quality that Bruce Wayne has about the threat of Superman. In this film, Superman, of course he’s normally seen as a figure of hope, a positive thing, but in this film, his motivations, the consequences of his actions are really being questioned by the world. Is he a savior? Or is he a dangerous alien with unknown intentions? And this becomes an obsession for Bruce Wayne. And he really wants to sort it out. So, it’s manifested in this sort of incredible dream that Zack decided to create.”
“Well, I’m not really at the liberty to talk about the Flash right now, but it’s something that you’ll be seeing in the future in our films. You do get a glimpse of him, of course, in ‘Batman v Superman.’ But I’m really looking forward to taking the amazing, iconic costume for the Flash and interpreting it in a fresh way where Ezra Miller is playing the Flash. He’s an extraordinary performer, he has a sort of interesting sense of humor and the youth that will be great for Barry Allen and I think he’s going to make a great Flash.”
Ezra talked a while ago about his Flash suit being post apocalyptic in nature, so I am almost sure we will see him and Jason Momoa’s Aquaman inside that dream sequence, which is more of a twisted vision of the future. Well, at least that’s what I have my money on currently. For more BvS news and me geeking out about it, keep your eyes on the Archonia Blog!
Loki Scene Got Cut From Thor Dark World
Comicbookresources got their hands on a nice deleted scene from Thor the Dark World last week. You can check it out above. Its a cool little scene that remind us of Tom Hiddleston’s acting prowess as Thor’s brother. I really hope he gets a meaty role in the next Thor film again! Marvel’s best movie villain, by far! Maybe that’s just the Thor fan in me though.
Thor A Guardian/New Spidey Speaks
As you can see above, Chris Hemsworth would really like to be part of the next Guardians of the Galaxy movie. He also goes on to talk about the next Spider-man, Tom Holland, who also has some words to say about joining the Marvel Universe.
Creed Director Coogler For Black Panther
Ryan Coogler, the award winning, young director from “Fruitwale Station” and the latest Rocky movie “Creed” is reportedly being sought by Marvel to direct their upcoming movie “Black Panther”.
In an interview a while ago he was asked about the importance of getting a black director to man the first black superhero movie from Marvel, which he answered with a yes. In his opinion background is important to get a character like that right.
If Marvel really manages to get him, who will probably be Oscar nominated early next year for “Creed”, that would be a great thing for the Panther, played by Chadwick Boseman, who just got introduced to the movie world in the recent (and pretty cool) Captain America: Civil War trailer!
New Legends of Tomorrow Trailer and Poster
DC’s next TV show “Legends of Tomorrow” will jump onto the small screen next year! DC and CW have released a new poster and a new trailer for the show.
Yeah. It’s DC superheroes and villains +Doctor Who like time travel antics + CW cheesyness! Pretty sure I will really like it!
It’s, of course, a spin off of both DC/CW shows Arrow and the Flash and the main villain, Vandal Savage, has just recently introduced into the universe in the two part Arrow/Flash crossover. What do you think so far?
DC’s Legend’s of Tomorrow stars Victor Garber (“The Flash,” “Alias”); Brandon Routh (“Arrow,” “Superman Returns”); Arthur Darvill (“Doctor Who”); Caity Lotz (“Arrow”); Ciarra Renee (“Pippin”); Franz Drameh (“Edge of Tomorrow”); with Dominic Purcell (“The Flash,” “Prison Break”); and Wentworth Miller (“The Flash,” “Prison Break”), based on the characters from DC Comics.
Guardians of the Galaxy Screen Test
Marvel has released a super funny screentest for casting of Guardians of the Galaxy. It shows Chris Pratt and Dave Batista in their respective roles and is definitely worth a look! Man, I LOVE Chris Pratt.
George Lukas On Force Awakens
Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy talked to the Hollywood Reporter about upcoming Star Wars movie “The Force Awakens”. In that interview she also revealed that George Lucas, Star Wars creator who sold the franchise to Disney a couple of years ago, has already seen the film.
“He really liked it.”
She continued talking about that Lucas told her that he had a hard time to see Star Wars continuing without him.
“If there’s one thing I’ve learned about George is it’s that he’s never, ever held back. Having him 100 percent on board is up to him and he can’t do that unless he’s running everything.”
Lucas himself talked to CBS and had this to say about the weird experience to sell of one’s creative baby after all those years and to see it thrive without him. He even went into the first meetings about the new film, when he still tried to be a part of the creative process.
- “…ultimately, they looked at the stories and they said, ‘We want to make something for the fans’…People don’t actually realize it’s actually a soap opera and it’s all about family problems — it’s not about spaceships. So they decided they didn’t want to use those stories, they decided they were going to do their own thing so I decided, ‘fine. … I’ll go my way and I let them go their way.”*
In an interview with the Washington Post he had an interesting metaphor for him attending the premiere of “Force Awakens”, which seems almost more like an obligation to the franchsie to him than a fun experience.
“I gotta go to the wedding. My ex will be there, my new wife will be there, but I’m going to have to take a very deep breath and be a good person and sit through it and just enjoy the moment, because it is what it is and it’s a conscious decision that I made.”
No Netflix Heroes In Avengers?!
The Russo Brothers, directors of Winter Soldier Civil War and the Avengers double whammy Infinity War parts 1 and 2, have been interviewed by Portugese magazine Super Intressante about the inclusion of the Netflix Marvel heroes and maybe the Agents of SHIELD characters for the mega team up Avengers two parter!
Marvel’s MCU is supposed to be an interconnected universe, so of course they will turn up there, right? Otherwise, what’s the point to have them all in the same universe? Right? RIGHT?!
“Other products, even if they are from Marvel, are controlled by others. Then there is the possibility of a crossover, but it’s more complicated. It is a smaller scale version of the problem that exists when remembering that Fox holds the rights to some of Marvel’s most popular characters, as does Sony and others. As storytellers, we only have control over what happens in Marvel movies, but everything is possible, Spider-Man (whose rights were held by Sony) became possible!”
So, apparently there is still hope to see Daredevil, Jessica Jones and co. inside a Marvel movie… but it’s a slim chance. Sadly.
