This weeks Geekly News brings us comments about the Ghosbusters reboot backlash, the best news from the upcoming Marvel and DC Films and more! Check it out!
Talking to The Guardian in an expansive interview , comedy star Melissa McCarthy talked a bit about the giant push back from the internet that the upcoming Ghostbusters remake has received. I am being nice here by saying giant push back, since the Ghostbusters trailer is the most down voted video in youtube history... let that sink in for a while. Next to that the 4 new female cast members were subjected to a maelstrom of sexist insults and online hate.
“All those comments — ‘You’re ruining my childhood!’- I mean, really, four women doing any movie on Earth will destroy your childhood?
I have a visual of those people not having a Ben [Falcone, McCarthy’s husband], not having friends, so they’re just sitting there and spewing hate into this fake world of the internet. I just hope they find a friend.”
That's a very nice way to hit back at the ugly masses without stooping to their level.
I admit to not being in love with the Ghostbuster reboot idea at all (which has nothing to do with the cast or them being female), but I will give the film a fair chance when it debuts in a few weeks from now.
Lex Luthor Returns In Justice League
A good news for people like me who liked his portrayal of the villain in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, it seems that Jesse Eisenberg will return to bring his own brand of creepy into the Justice League film. To be honest... it would be weird if he didn't.
Eisenberg was a guest at London Comic Con last weekend and was asked about this.
I'm kind of in wait. They just started filming 'Justice League,' so I'm kind of, like, waiting for my crack at it. I don't know what I'm allowed to say, because I feel like there's probably some drone following me from DC, and if I say anything wrong I get, you know, picked off. But yeah I think so, and I love it, and I love everybody who’s in it. You know, it’s a really talented group of people."
“I only hope I have another opportunity to work with these wonderful people and play this interesting character. ... The character has so many different faces. He has a public persona that appears charming and friendly and then a deeply disturbed private persona, so it will be interesting to see where he goes.”
Geoff Johns talks Ben Affleck Batman Script
Last week, Chief Creative Editor of DC Comics and new executive producer of the DC Films Geoff Johns talked a bit about his co-operation with Ben Affleck at writing the Batman solo film script. Check out the interview above.
First Power Rangers Image/Sequel News
Check out the first image of the now shooting Power Ranger movie reboot! I think this is a cool and modern interpretation of the old school costumes. It's cinematic, but still very much recognisable as Power Rangers.
Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer also talked about the possible future of the project.
"We are really, really excited about the ‘Power Rangers’ movie. We could see doing five or six or seven."
So, while I think he shouldn't be too fats on pressing the sequel/cinematic universe button, what do I know?! Maybe this will be the coolest thing ever. Suits look dope, so that is a start.
Animated Spidey Movie Is About Miles
Sony Pictures announced an animated Spider-man movie last year, which was written and produced by 21 Jump Street/Lego movie geniuses Phil Lord and Chris Miller and WON'T be a part of the MCU. Now we finally got confirmation on what this film will be about... or better... who?
According to Heroic Hollywood the animated film will be aimed at younger kids and not feature Peter Parker as the old webhead, but Miles Morales, Peter's replacement from the Ultimate Marvel universe.
I have to admit that I haven't read a lot of Miles' adventures in the comics, but he seems like a cool character and getting some diversity into an animated superhero film is a good thing. With Lord and Miller writing the script, there is almost no way this won't turn out fun. The film is currently scheduled to release in December 2018.
Olivia Munn/Psylocke Wants To Join X-Force
Talking to USA Today to promote X-Men Apocalypse actress Olivia Munn talked a bit about the future of her character Psylocke in the X-Men film universe. Apparently she has her eye on Deadpool already.
"That would be a really cool thing to do. What he did with Deadpool was genius and I’m so excited for him. It would definitely be cool to see Deadpool and some of the other X-Men characters gather for an X-Force movie. I think that’s what the whole world is coming to — everybody unites together, right? It’s never just one character anymore. We all become one movie."
Of course her character would be an obvious choice for a place on X-Force, but I hope her character will be a bit more fleshed out then (I liked X-Men Apocalypse, but she was a weak point). With X-Men Apocalypse not making nearly as much money as Deadpool, it will be a sure bet that Deadpool will show up a lot more in future X-films.
David Ayer Shares New Suicide Squad Image
Director David Ayer has been hard at work at Suicide Squad for quite a while now. Reshoots are seemingly done now, so the film is in the scoring phase now. Ayer tweeted the image you can see above with the caption:
String section hard at work #SuicideSquad
The score will be written by composer Steven Price (The World's End, Gravity). I really loved the scores for BvS and MoS (Hans Zimmer is a genius!), so I hope this one will follow up on those great pieces of music.
