The newest Geekly dives into Baby Groot, Ezra Miller's Flash, a tale of two Deathstrokes and more! Check it all out!
Arrows Manu Bennett Talks Movie Deathstroke
Manu Bennett played a great Slade Wilson during seasons one and two of CW's DC Comics show Arrow, so of course people are interested to know what he thinks about his character being played by Joe Mangianello as the main bad guy in Ben Affleck's solo Batman movie, which will start shooting Spring/Early Summer 2017.
Manu Bennett was asked about just that during MCM Comic Con in Birmingham last weekend and had this to say.
“Any advice for Joe? Joe is my friend. I think he’s going to do a great job.”
So, he seems actually happy for his friend to get to lay the part on the big screen! Bennett was also asked when we might see his version of Slade on the small screen on Arrow again and he had this to say:
“They’re coming up to episode 100, and I think that is going to be the answer that everybody is waiting for. I’ll leave it to that episode to explain itself.”
Sounds good to me. Can't get enough Slade.
Rey Fisher has been a broadway actor until he got cast for Batman v Superman in a cameo to set up Cyborg! Now he sees himself in one of the biggest films of 2017, when he finally shows his superhero chops in Zack Snyders' Justice League.
The very talented and charming actor appeared at Rhode Island Comic-Con last weekend and talked a bit about that and his love for the character.
"I actually grew up watching a lot of these cartoons - a lot of the animated series. Batman: The Animated Series, Justice League, all the stuff that would come onto Cartoon Network. My first encounter with Cyborg was through the Teen Titans cartoon.[...] You know, I was in the middle of high school [when Teen Titans debuted], and I was like, ‘This show speaks to me’ because there were all of these characters going through these real teen issues while also saving the world. The extent of my knowledge was just about that."
"Once I was cast, though, they send you a whole library of stuff about the character so I ended up being able to fall in love with the comic book version which can be very different. I feel like I know him like the back of my hand, but there’s always somebody who knows a little more than me about things."
I really think he looks like a great Victor Stone, so I cannot wait until we see more of him in Justice League.
Zod Talks Marvel/Star Wars
Talking to Fandango, character actor Michael Shannon was asked about his career and if he wants to join the Marvel or Star Wars universes in the future, after having been General Zod in Man of Steel. He didn't seem too excited about that prospect and revealed that they had approached him for something recently:
"No, I’m not really looking for that. They called me recently about some iteration – I won’t say – but some version of a movie that’s been made already countless times. They were gonna give me a lot of of money, but I was like nah. Big movie, too. But I have to think it’s an interesting story. If I don’t, I can’t do it. I won’t do it."
I like him sticking to his guns and not just doing something he might not be excited about for money, but am sad at the same time to maybe not get him in a big genre blockbuster again soon.
John Wick Director For Deadpool 2
A few weeks ago the geek community was in shock when Deadpool director Tim Miller left Deadpool 2 over creative differences with actor Ryan Reynolds.
Now, the production of the sequel, which is rushing towards filming, has found a new man to tie it all together behind the camera! The director of Deadpool 2 will be David Leitch, who co-directed John Wick and John Wick 2!
While this is clearly not a bad choice, I feel that compared with Tim Miller is might lack the love for the source material. Miller was a comic geek to the bone, who did a lot of cinematic CGI trailers for DC Universe Online and the Batman Arkham games, while I am not sure that Leitch is an actual fan who doesn't see this just as a career opportunity. We'll see how it will turn out. His first film John Wick was on a comparable level to Deadpool in terms of action, so he might be a good fit in the end.
A Green Lantern Will Be In Justice League Plus Darkseid
The Justice League movie is coming at us (finally) in late 2017, but while it features most of the main Justice Leaguers, a very prominent character is missing: Green Lantern.
Now, according to a source talking to the Wrap, that might not be the case:
"A member of the Green Lantern Corps. will be seen in 'Justice League' in a key sequence."
I don't think this might mean a human GL, but think this might be a cameo of the corps in general.
The source also talked a bit about Darkseid, who is still not confirmed to be in the movies, while his underling Steppenwolf is announced to be the main baddy.
"Darkseid's presence will loom large in 'Justice League' as the film's prologue introduces the New God while ancient Amazonians, Atlanteans, and pre-historic humans fight him off Earth."
I actually think Darkseid WILL be the main bad guy in JL and he will be revealed in the third act to do what Steppenwolf doesn't seem able to. The Wrap is actually a legit Hollywood trade that only runs rumors like this when they have a legit source for it, so you don't even have to take those infos with a lot of salt.

Ezra Miller Talks The Flash
Ezra Miller talked to IGN about his upcoming Flash movie, while promoting his current movie Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them. He went into detail on where we will find Barry in the solo movie, after he already teamed up with Batman and Co. in Justice League.
"I certainly think it will represent the next stage, What I find fascinating is that we’re still very much amateur-hour Speedster. I’d love for the series to track an evolution of Barry Allen’s early times as The Flash. Like, I love this comic 'Kingdom Come' - unbelievable art - and in that The Flash is fully evolved, and you never even see him, right? It’s just like a red mist, and there’s no crime in [Keystone] City. He protects a whole chunk of the country."
"So that wouldn’t make for the most interesting film - you know what I mean? What do we have to learn about that guy? That guy barely exists, right? He’s almost one with the Speed Force. So it’s interesting to go to the beginning. It would be hard - you’d have to get Werner Herzog to make a movie about a bolt of lightning!"
Vin Diesel Talks Baby Groot
Baby Groot has clearly been the stand out for most people out of the Guaridans vol.2 teaser trailer, so now actor Vin Diesel, who voiced Groot, talked a bit about what we can expect from the little guy in the sequel and if he is different from regular Groot we fell in love with in the first film.
"Yeah, there is a difference. He couldn’t be more naive as Baby Groot. I always think of the Groot that we saw on the first Guardians as a college-level Groot, so he’s not fully grown yet, but he’s a man. And once he sacrifices himself at the end of the movie, now he has to start all over, so to speak, but we’re gonna see this goofy, adorable, baby Groot thing running around the screen and just learning as he goes."
