Blomkamp Alien Sequel News
After rumors surfaced that the recently announced Neil Blomkamp (District 9, Chappie) Alien sequel is going to undo the events of the third and fourth Alien movies the director spoke about that on his current Chappie press tour.
“My favorites are the first two movies, so I want to make a film that’s connected to ‘Alien’ and ‘Aliens’. That’s my goal. I’m not trying to undo ‘Alien 3′ or ‘Alien: Resurrection,’ I just want it to be connected to Alien ‘1’ and ‘2.’” he told AlloCine at the press junket.
Also, Michael Biehn who played Hicks in Aliens has confirmed to a fan at a convention that he will reprise his role for Blomkamps movie, which will undo the major mistake of killing off that great character off screen between Aliens and Alien 3 (he fought the T800, dammit! He deserved better!!!)
Mortal Kombat X Story Trailer
Who’s next?! Well, the recently released Mortal Kombat X story trailer kinda answers that, so all you fighting game fans should definitely take a look! Here you go:
Mortal Kombat X will be released on April 14th 2015.
Another Flash/Arrow Spinoff in Development
In case you think there is simply not enough DC Comic’s stuff on TV, with Arrow, Flash, Constantine and Gotham currently airing and iZombie, Supergirl, Titans and Lucifer starting in the fall, don’t worry because the CW network has got your back!
The producers of Arrow/Flash and Supergirl are currently working on another spin off from Arrow/Flash which will involve the Atom Brandon Routh, Caity Lotz (in a yet undisclosed role, because you know… spoilers), Firestorm actor Victor Garber (and probably his other half Robbie Amell as well) and Captain Cold Wentworth Miller in a superhero team situation.
How Lotz and especially Flash villain Captain Cold will fit into this is still to be seen, but it sure sounds like an exiting idea to broaden the CW DC universe with a team show. The show is planned for a start in this fall or next mid-season and it is not clear if they will call it their Justice League, Justice Society, or something different entirely. We will keep you updated on this on the Archonia blog.
Batman: Arkham Knight Gotham is Mine Trailer
The geniuses at Rocksteady an WB Interactive have dropped the latest trailer for the upcoming videogame highlight Batman: Arkham Knight, which will finish off Rocksteady’s Batman Arkham series for good. It goes into more details on what the villains want and who is seemingly pulling the strings. The trailer is also loaded with hidden codes, which have been decoded last week and can be entered into the official Arkham Knight page to view biographies of the villains.
Arkham Knight will release on June 2nd and will be the videogame event of the year (at least for me). If you are as excited as well go watch that trailer now and … you know… rewatch endlessly.
Power/Rangers Gritty Fan Film Makes Waves
Movie producer Adi Shankar shook up the internet (at least the geeky parts of it) with his Power/Rangers bootleg fan film, which reimagined the Power Rangers in very dark and gritty ways (I just say Black Ranger snorting cocaine as an example). The fan film has very high production value and features BSG star Katee Sackhoff and James Van der Beek as the pink and red Ranger respectively. Check it out:
Power Rangers rights holder Saban reacted with less enthusiasm to the fan film and wanted it removed from the internet as soon as possible, but producer Shanka reacted to that with the statement that he will only take it down when he gets a cease and desist letter while also quoting freedom of creative expression and the right to parody whatever he wants. If the term parody actually applies to this fan film is pretty shaky, but nevertheless… if you wanna see it you might want to hurry.
Several ex-Rangers also voiced their opinions on the film, with Amy Jo Johnson (original Pink Ranger) being pretty ecstatic about the film and praising especially Katee Sackhoff’s performance in her old role on on side and ex-Green Ranger Jason David Frank with a more negative stance on the violence and drug use in a kid’s property on the other.
Margot Robbie on Harley and Suicide Squad
While on tour doing press for her movie “Focus” Margot Robbie (Wolf of Wallstreet) can hardly end a single interview without being asked about the upcoming DC Comics Suicide Squad movie. One of those questions was about her contract for the movie and for how many sequels she actually signed on, since it is common practice for rival Marvel Studios to sign actors for a large amount of films.
“You don’t need to have commitment issues to be frightened by the fact that you might have just signed 10 years of your life away,” she told AZCentral. “But with her, it’s a character I don’t think would ever get boring. Ever. So if they did ‘Suicide Squad One,’ ‘Two’ and ‘Three,’ I would be over the moon about it.”
Next to that Joker actor Jared Leto has found himself in Toronto, where the movie is going in front of the cameras in April and director David Ayer has tweeted that tomorrow he will reveal something for the Suicide Squad movie. If you wanna find out what that is (maybe first picture of the cast in costume?), keep your eyes on the Archonia blog!
Matt Fraction and Kelly Sue DeConnick get TV Series
Comicbook writer couple Matt Fraction and Kelly Sue DeConnick are making their way into TV with their comic series “Sex Criminals” developed by their own company Milkfed Criminal Masterminds and Universal TV. They want to use their production company also to help other comic book creators to bring their own properties to the small screen.
“We’re always excited to usher in fresh voices to the television space, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to partner with Matt and Kelly Sue, a fantastic pair whose award-winning comics are as deeply realized as they are entertaining,” said Universal TV EVP Bela Bajaria.
New Fantastic Four Images Surface
Empire Magazine from the UK has more exclusive pictures from the upcoming Josh Trank helmed Fantastic Four reboot. It continues the darker and more serious look the trailer already gave us of the movie. Comic purists may not like what they see, but as sci-fi films go this one looks pretty interesting. It should also be noted that there were a lot of times when the Fantastic Four comic got seriously dark as well, so it is not unheard of for this comic book property.
The movie stars Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan, Jamie Bell and is set to enter our theatres on August 6th
