Mad Max Gameplay Overview Trailer
Avalanche and Warner Bros. Interactive have released the first comprehensive Gameplay Trailer for their upcoming Mad Max open world action game. The trailer goes pretty deep into what you can expect. It explains the story and the gameplay, and the awesome Magnus Opus building feature has my attention! It looks like a Mad Max styled GTA, in the post apocalyptic wasteland of Australia, paired with Twisted Metal car combat and Batman Arkham Trilogy hand-to-hand action thrown in for good measure. Next to Arkham Knight, Witcher III and MGSV this is my most anticipated game of the year, it being scheduled for September 2015. Only downside: no Tom Hardy as Mad Max. Anyway, the movie Fury Road will be released next month, and should give me that part. Meanwhile, check out the game trailer here:
Frank Miller’s Dark Knight III Announced
After months of speculation and rumors its finally confirmed: Frank Miller returns to his Batman epic with a sequel to “Dark Knight Returns” and “Dark Knight Strikes Back”. While the first masterpiece from the 80s revolutionized the comic book medium and brought on the trend of the dark and grim superhero, its first sequel DKSB is not as fondly remembered. Hopefully, “DKIII: The Master Race” will be more like Returns than like Strikes Back, and Miller has enlisted some A-list help in the form of Brian Azzarello (100 Bullets, Wonder Woman, Batman Broken City, Joker) to make sure of that. Miller’s influence on Batman is currently on a fever pitch again, since Ben Affleck’s Batman from the upcoming Batman v Superman seems to be heavily based on Miller’s works, especially Dark Knight Returns.
The 8 issue mini series will be co written by Miller and Azzarello and release this fall with a twice monthly shipping schedule.
“Batman remains my favorite comic book hero and a sequel to Dark Knight is going to be daunting, but we’ll do our best.” said Miller in the official press release.
“We are thrilled to have Frank back home at DC writing Batman. The story he and Brian have crafted is an astounding and triumphant conclusion to this seminal body of work which influenced and shaped generations of readers and creators alike.” according to co publishers Jim Lee and Dan Didio, while Brian Azzarello had this to say: “It’s been an amazing experience collaborating with Frank these past six months. I think we have an epic story that these characters truly deserve.”
I think it is a good idea to have Azzarello to keep Miller somewhat in check, since his last works have all been a bit on the weird end of the spectrum. But who knows? Maybe this is a return to form for Miller. Either way I am excited to find out!
Jared Leto’s Joker Revealed
After weeks of teasing us with haircuts, voice snippets and the like, David Ayer, director of the upcoming Suicide Squad movie, has released our first legit look on Jared Leto’s Joker on the characters 75th anniversary, this past weekend. It is a truly terrifying picture and confirms that Leto went all in with this role. The reactions to the pic have been mixed on the internet (like with everything DC movie related it seems), but I think it is a great look. He has everything that makes Joker the Joker and the added tattoos and metal teeth make him look even weirder and scarier to me. We should also not forget that this Joker has been imprisoned for a while, so maybe this is his way to parody prison life. Joker in the comics has always been a shifting enigma that makes up his current personality as he goes along, so I think it is absolutely fitting to his character. Topless scenes with the character won’t be the norm, so I think even people who dislike the tatted look can probably stomach one scene with him looking like this. In the end it comes down to performance anyway, which I am sure Leto will nail as well.
The influences we should talk about are definitely Miller’s Joker from Dark Knight Returns, Miller’s Joker from All Star Batman & Robin (which sported tattoos as well) and Grant Morrison’s Joker from Batman RIP (with the buff shirtless look and slicked back hair).
Stay tuned for more Suicide Squad goodness in the coming months, since I cannot believe Ayer will suddenly stop providing us stuff to talk about.
Marvel and Telltale Games Working Together
Marvel Comics and Tell Tale Games announced last week that the two companies are going to team up on a Marvel videogame for 2017. It has not been revealed on what Marvel property or character this game will be based, but my bet is its either going to be a tie in to one of the Netflix shows (Daredevil, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage), or feature something Avengers related. No matter what they do, this should have your attention. Tell Tale has a phenomenal track record of story based games with their two seasons Walking Dead, Tales from the Borderlands, Game of Thrones and especially DC/Vertigo’s Wolf Among Us, which was probably their best one yet. Tell Tale games are story centric, modern point and click adventures that force you to make hard decisions and that may end up with a completely different ending each time you play because of those. If you haven’t played any of them yet I strongly urge you to check out either Wolf Among Us (you don’t need to know the comic before playing – the game is actually a prequel 20 years before the comics) or the Walking Dead if you are more of a Zombie guy/gal.
Scarlet Witch will return for Civil War
During a Meet the Filmmakers event in London, Elisabeth Olsen was asked if she will return to the Marvel Universe in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War next year. The actress said “I think I am allowed to talk about that now.” and confirmed her involvement in the movie, but did not divulge any other information. This means that Civil War is now going to feature Captain America, Iron Man, Falcon, Hawkeye, Black Widow, Scarlett Witch, Black Panther (those are confirmed) and rumored are Thor, Hulk, Warmachine, Wasp and a 14 year old Peter Parker, according to Bleeding Cool. So it is basically Avengers 3, right?
Are you excited for her return and did you watch Age of Ultron yet? Check out my review here.
Daredevil Renewed For Second Season
Let me do my “cool dance” real quick… dum, du, dum, dum, dum, dah…
Daredevil (aka the best thing Marvel Studios has ever done, read my review) has been renewed for a second season. Thats big news, since the original plan for the Netflix Marvel shows was to each have one season and the culminate into “The Defenders”, but the reaction to Daredevil has been so overwhelmingly positive that Netflix and Marvel decided to change those plans and have Daredevil run a second and maybe more seasons next to the other Netflix shows. Showrunner Steven S. DeKnight leaves the show for its second season due to prior commitments, but Daredevil writers Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez are taking over. The second season is expected to hit Netflix next year, around the same time the first one did. Shooting in NYC is going to start later this summer.
If you still haven’t checked out Daredevil on Netflix feel my evil stare for a second… and then check out Daredevil on Netflix!
