In this section, you’ll find all recent headlines that you, as a pop culture aficionado, should not miss. We can’t all keep track of everything, so each week we’ll select the important news for you. We bring you our: Geekly News Round-Up!
Kylo Ren Undercover Boss
In an awesome bit on Saturday Night Live, actor Adam Driver brought his Star Wars character Kylo Ren to live again, in a great bit that shows the dark jedi hiding among the troops of starkiller base to find out how they like working there and under Kylo Ren. Check it out above! Great to see him take all the complaints about his character in such a sporting way! To me, he and Kylo were the best thing about Force Awakens, so I cannot wait to see where he takes the character in Episode 8!
New Deadpool Spots
Deadpool is almost upon us… well, the movie, not he himself in his smelly glory. Check out the newest and very cool TV spots above with a few bits of new footage! Looks pretty cool to me!
The marketing is in full swing now and I start to get really excited for this! Let’s hope Fox knows what they are doing with this one, because so far every superhero film they did was a bust, apart from Singer and Vaughn led X-Men movies. Knock on wood!
Civil War Spidey Intro Details
Captain America Civil War, the Russo Brother led sequel to Marvel best movie yet, will easily be the biggest and probably most important Marvel movie we have seen so far! It will not only pit Captain America against Iron Man, with fellow Avengers chosing sides, but it will also introduce two very important heroes to the MCU: Black Panther and… the amazing Spider-man!
Peter Parker’s third movie incarnation will be played by Tom Holland and debut in Civil War this April! How he will fit into the overall conflict is still anybody’s guess, but the guys over at Geek.com claim to have some insider info regarding our favorite wall crawler:
“Our source told us is that Tony goes to Peter Parker specifically to recruit him, and to seal the deal, offers him an advanced Spider-suit to fight in — an upgrade from whatever 15-year-old Peter was previously slinging around in. But why would Peter even consider such an offer? ‘Peter started becoming Spidey because he grew up and idolized Tony,’ our source revealed. Since Iron Man takes place 10 years before we meet Peter in Civil War, where Peter is 15, that means Peter was five-years-old when Tony broke onto the scene in the original Iron Man, likely dominating the news as Peter grew into a teenager. If the guy you admire and look up to suddenly shows up on your balcony with a sweet piece of tech and says, ‘hey, let’s be bros,’ are you going to turn him down?”
Sounds like a cool idea, even if I still don’t love the fact that they bring Peter back into high school age again. Very excited for Spidey’s debut into the MCU, which has been a long time coming! Are you excited to see the ol’ webhead as well? Again, this is only a rumor, but it makes sense to me, so we’ll see.
Suicide Squad Poster Revealed
This Tuesday on the CW Network in the US Kevin Smith will host a one hour special on all things DC, with half an hour about Legends of Tomorrow (which will start later this week on Thursday!) and the other half about DC movies in “The Dawn of the Justice League”, which will bring us a look at the Wonder Woman movie, BvS and a new trailer for Suicide Squad! To get the hype train a-rollin’, WB and DC released the first official Suicide Squad poster, which you can check out above! They also released character posters for each of the main members, like these:
Really cool teaser posters, that only make me even more excited for the trailer in two days! I have a feeling that Suicide Squad might be my favorite movie this year.
Jessica Jones Season 2 Confirmed
After a successful launch of Daredevil on Netflix in April, Marvel Studios had their second amazing Netflix show in October last year! Jessica Jones was a powerhouse of a TV show and the darkest thing that Marvel ever did, outside of the comics! Now, as reported by Variety, the show has been renewed for a second season, so buckle up for another round with Krysten Ritter as Jessica aka the hottest woman on TV (well… it’s a streaming service, but you know what I mean!)
The official Twitter even tweeted out a teaser image for season 2 which you can check out below:
Super excited for this one!
Daredevil Season 2 Info
Entertainment Weekly talked a bit to Jon Bernthal about his character the Punisher Frank Castle in season 2 of Daredevil, which launches on Netflix March 18th!
“He’s a guy who brought the war home with him [in] the worst possible way. There are a lot of iterations of this character and in all of them it’s a man who’s gone through this unbelievable trauma and what’s interesting about our take on him is how this trauma reshapes his own philosophy. I can’t give too much away, but what’s interesting is the way [showrunners Petrie and Ramirez] have made his story a slow burn. It’s interesting to find this guy at the point we find him. You want an evolution and a process. He starts in one place and will end up in another.”
At the Winter TCA’s 2016 he had this to say:
*“I think, for me, since so much of Season 1 was about Matt sort of dealing with this decision to be a hero. I think here comes this guy who, you know, he’s really not concerned with that, about being a hero. And I think, if I got one thing from the comics, I think, as far as superpowers, his superpower is his rage. His superpower is that he is not going to quit, and he is going to go forward no matter what. And that’s as human and grounded a quality as I think — as this sort of genre could sort of have, and I think that is the perfect show to introduce a character like that — to reintroduce it.”
