Let's check out the latest news from geek culture! Not a lot of movie news, but a lot of TV stuff has been announced from Netflix, DC and more!
Amell On Green Arrow In The DC Movies
Stephen Amell, Green Arrow in the Arrow TV show, recently spoke about Green Arrows future in the movies during a panel at Salt Lake Comic Con.
"I do not have a right to Oliver Queen. Someone played it played it before me. Someone voiced it before me. Somebody will play it after me. I don’t believe that there are plans for Oliver Queen in the DC Extended Universe, based off things that people have told me, but I would not be upset if that changed at all."
He also talked about the relationship between the TV and film side of DC, saying that there is no bad blood or anything like that and that both sides work next to each other.
Ghost Rider For Agents of SHIELD Revealed
Thanks to Entertainment Weekly we have our first look at Robbie Reyes (Gabriel Luna) from the season 3 premiere of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which is titled "The Ghost".
Unfortunately the image only shows us the relatively new Ghost Rider in his human form, but he already sports the outfit this version of the rider has in the comics.
The show returns for season 3 in September 30th!
More Thrawn Teased
Another tease for Grand Admiral Thrawn, who will play into the new season of Star Wars Rebels! Check it out above! I really hope the iconic Star Wars novels villain will sometime play a role in the live action movies as well. Here the synopsis for the Rebels season premiere:
Having established a secret base on Atollon, the Ghost crew, now led by a more powerful Ezra, strengthens the rebel fleet by acquiring new resources and recruits eager to stand against the Empire. However, the Imperial efforts to eliminate the rebellion are now being led by the coldly analytical Grand Admiral Thrawn, whose strategic, tactical, and cultural insights make him a threat unlike any they have faced before. In Season Three, Ezra and Sabine take on new roles and challenges as the rebels prepare for their biggest mission yet — a direct assault on the Empire.
Krypton Series Grandma Zod Cast
Deadline revealed that Georgina Campbell (BBC drama Murdered by My Boyfriend, Broadchurch and Guy Ritchie's King Arthur: Legend of the Sword) has been cast as General Zod's ancestor Lyta-Zod for Syfy's upcoming Krypton TV series, which is one of the two leads of the show!
"Lyta Zod is a member of Krypton’s military caste and the daughter of a general — that would be Superman’s future nemesis, General Zod, Lyta Zod serves as a cadet — and has also been having a clandestine, forbidden romance with Seg-El."
Krypton is a prequel series set two generations before Jor-El and General Zod and is being developed by Man of Steel writer David S. Goyer. According to rumors the show could maybe actually play in the same universe as the DC movies, which have been written by Goyer as well, but I don't believe that until it's official.
As cool as a Krypton show could be, removing it so far from character we actually care about seems like a weird choice and I am not sure how much interest I have, even as a HUGE Superman fan, to see people on his planet decades before he gets born. All depends on the shows quality, of course.
Second Look At CW's Superman
Tyler Hoechlin has been revealed as CW's Superman a few weeks ago and has already started shooting his appearance in Supergirl's season 2 opening episode! The first official image, however, was a little bit on the awful side, so now thanks to Entertainment Weekly we get our second and much better look at CW's own Man of Steel!
Hoechlin also talked about his Superman to Entertainment Weekly and threw some shade at Henry Cavill's version (which I, as a huge fan of MoS and BvS disapprove of)
“It’s Superman as I think he was intended to be, which is just an incredible symbol of hope to kids that they can do anything, that they can be good people, and that good people can triumph over evil. You don’t have to be dark and brooding and always in this state of masculine toughness. He sits in that very hopeful and optimistic place that Kara tends to be in.”
Seems to me he watched Cavill's movies with his eyes closed, but all right. We'll see how he fares in the role in a few weeks, when Supergirl debuts on October 10th.
Here is the official synopsis for Supergirl season 2. Check it out:
In Season One, Supergirl soared fighting crime and battling various villains, chief among them two Kryptonians who were intent on destroying earth, but she has yet to find that same empowerment as Kara Danvers. Now, in Season Two, Kara has left the safety of being Cat Grant’s assistant in order to figure out what she really wants to do, while as Supergirl she continues to work at the DEO., protecting the citizens of National City and searching for Jeremiah and Cadmus. Along the way, she will team up with Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) to battle new villains, as she strives to balance her personal life with her life as a superhero.
First Look At Stargirl In Legends of Tomorrow
Stargirl seems to be poised for her CW debut in Legend's of Tomorrow! You can glimpse her in her WWII inspired costume in the new Legends of Tomorrow clip above! Check it out!
Stranger Things Season 2 Confirmed
In the coolest news of last week, Netflix finally confirmed a second season of Stranger Things for next year! The Duffer Brothers had already said they would want to do a second season, but of course that wasn't up to only them, so Netflix giving the thumbs up is a great thing!
I can't wait for season 2 and see where they are going to take these characters we fell so much in love with. Only thing they confirmed right now is it will stay with the characters in the 80s, introduce a few new characters, explore the weird dimension of the Demogorgon further and it is not sure yet if 11 will return or not (she will return, of course. Come on.).
We'll see all of that unravel next year, so yay!
