A lot of news in the worlds of Marvel and DC Comics! Wonder Woman 2, the Joker spin off movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio?! Check it out!
Tessa Thompson/Valkyrie Talks Female Superhero Roles
Actress Tessa Thompson (Creed) talked recently about her view on female characters in superhero movies to the Los Angeles Times.
"There’s an unfair position that women are sometimes put in, in the context of superhero movies and action movies where at once they have to be very strong and fierce, but also sexy. Obviously, it’s still a superhero movie and so you’ve got to figure out when you need to stand with your hands on your hips and what makes sense. But we wanted to create a character that occupied her own iconography."
"There’s one word I hate in all scripts in Hollywood at the moment in describing women, and that is the word ‘badass.’ That word has just crept into every script that is pushed around this town now. It’s terrible, because it doesn’t mean anything. It’s a dumb male writer’s way of saying, ‘Ah, uh, she’s like, she, uh, she’s tough.’ Then straight after that it’s like, ‘She’s badass, but she’s got a beauty about her. And she’s sexy. Unconsciously sexy.'"
New Justice League Picture
Warner Brothers released a new picture from their upcoming DC Comics team up film Justice League. It gives us another look at Ben Affleck's Batman, Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman and Ezra Miller's Flash.
Meanwhile, there is also a new quote of Affleck on the movie.
“This is a step in evolution to bring together all of these characters who have had their origins. It’s about multilateralism, and it’s about hope and about working together and the kind of conflicts of trying to work together with others. Part of the drama of the movie is the question of whether or not the team is going to come together. It’s very different from the tenor of the last movie and there’s also more room for humor.”
Super excited for this! Can't wait!
Leonardo DiCaprio For Joker Solo Movie?!
The Hollywood Reporter recently revealed that WB and DC Comics are working on a Todd Phillips directed and Martin Scorsese produced Joker solo origin, which would be separate from the DCEU (the shared universe of the Man of Steel, BvS, Suicide Squad, Justice League and Wonder Woman movies) and would also not include the DCEU's Joker, Jared Leto.
Now the Hollywood Reporter followed up that story with a report from insider sources that say WB wants to get Leonardo DiCaprio himself to play the stand alone version of the Joker. The movie is apparently supposed to be set in early 80s Gotham and features a young Joker who gets bullied because of his permanent.
DiCaprio isn't confirmed for this yet, just as the movie's production isn't green lighted yet, but according to HR the script is currently being worked on and actors are being courted. According to their sources these developments have Jared Leto in a frenzy, as he doesn't appreciate being cut out of Suicide Squad almost entirely and then another actor getting to do a solo Joker movie.
I still think this is actually a horrible idea on every level. I don't think DiCaprio is the right guy for the role, I feel the "he was bullied" angle is just cliche and the whole "two movie Jokers at once" thing will just confuse and split audiences. We'll see if this movie comes to pass at all, but I'd rather have the proposed Joker vs Harley Mad Love movie starring Leto and Margot Robbie.
Dick Grayson/Nightwing Cast For Titans TV Show
The upcoming Titans TV show, from DC Comics, finally cast its lead actor. Brenton Thwaites, known from the last Pirates of the Caribbean movie, has been cast as the leader of the Titans: Dick Grayson. Nightwing.
DC's Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns had this to say about the casting:
"Dick Grayson is one of the most important and iconic heroes in the DC universe, and it wasn’t easy to find him but we have. Brenton has the emotional depth, heart, danger and physical presence of Batman’s former protege and the Titans future leader. We’re extremely lucky he’s chosen to bring his talents to this project and this character."
Very excited about this show, which will start shooting later this fall and find its way onto our TV screens in 2018.
Patty Jenkins Talks Wonder Woman 2
Director Patty Jenkins (Wonder Woman, Monster) recently talked to Entertainment Tonight about her upcoming Wonder Woman sequel and shared a few interesting tidbits on where the story might take our beloved princess.
"The greatest thing about making this [the first Wonder Woman] movie was the fact that you’re really building to the Wonder Woman that we all love, but not until the end of the movie. The most exciting thing about [the sequel] is literally seeing her loose in the world now, living those classic stories. Here’s Wonder Woman, and what can she do? It should be a totally different movie, but a grand and now full-blown Wonder Woman in the world."
I think that sounds great! We are gonna see more of Wonder Woman soon, when Justice League hits in November!
