This week we have a LOT of Dick Grayson related news and rumors! Plus Moon Knight speculation, info on the Titans show, Watchmen on HBO and more!
Lewis Tan Talked About Playing Nightwing With DC Comics
Actor and martial artist Lewis Tan made a short splash in this years Deadpool 2 (get it?!) as X-Force's Shatterstar, but he also stole scenes as the drunken boxing style hand ninja Zhou Geng in Iron Fist season 1 and as Gaius Chau in Into the Badlands!
Recently the actor shared an image showing him after a meeting in the DC Entertainment offices in Burbank, holding a fat stack of comics. People were wondering what that was about from the second the picture went online and now the actor broke the silence on the Hashtag Show podcast. He talked about the Nightwing movie!
"I know Chris McKay wants a martial artist, right, so that's out there. He's following me on Twitter, you know...there's a lot of good juju vibes out there for that. Nothing that I can say that is confirmed. This is a project that he's still developing and I sat down with DC, with some of the executives at DC, and they're big fans, I'm a big fan, obviously. My father came to America, because of Batman [Tan's father worked on Tim Burton's 1989 film] and, you know, I definitely want to see that come full circle and give back.
Im not trading in my Marvel roots, because they started me, but DC started my dad, so it would be nice to go over there and play around and find the right thing. So we're looking for the right thing and there were a lot of different talks and Nightwing was one of those that were mentioned, so we'll see."
I actually think he could be a great fit for the role of Dick Grayson and I don't mind the ethnicity change at all. Dick Grayson being Asian American makes as much sense as him being anything else... plus it is always better to have an actor actually being able to do his fight scenes (looking at you, Ben "I let my stuntman worry about all of that" Affleck).
Infinity War Actor Wants To Play Moon Knight
Actor Ross Marquard, who played the Red Skull with the help of heavy make up and CGI in Infinity War, recently revealed that he would love to bring another Marvel character to the screen. This time... a hero... or better anti hero.
"Moon Knight! It’s tough because a lot of my friends have said Moon Knight is essentially just Marvel’s answer to Batman, but I don’t agree with that. With what they’ve been doing the last 15 years with the character–going into the dissociative identity disorder, really calling in to question if everything happening is all in his head, is he actually a vigilante killer or did he die in Egypt? It brings up a slew of questions, and that to me has never really been delved into in any comic book character before–the idea of, is any of this actually happening? Those are such amazing questions and I don’t feel like any comic book series before or since has really tapped into that. So for me, playing a crazy superhero would be awesome. So Moon Knight, Moon Knight for sure."
I actually would really like to see a Moon Knight film or TV show that orientates itself a lot at the recent Warren Ellis started reboot of the character, so sign me up Marvel!
Titans Pilot Episode Plot Details Revealed
The DC Comics streaming service, called DC Universe, will launch sometime this summer (hopefully worldwide) and bring us, just like Netflix, a slew of original created content only available on the streaming service... all focussed on DC Comics. You will be able to stream comics, DC movie classics like Batman Returns, animated movies and TV shows and new shows like Harley Quinn Animated, Doom Patrol, Swamp Thing and the Titans!
Now, we finally got some details about the Titans show and a first look at its main character: Dick Grayson's Robin! Check out the image above and then read on for some slightly spoilerish info about the tone and take of the shows first episode:
Apparently the show will have a very mature and dark tone, reminding people of Batman v Superman. The show will delve into dealing with the trauma and hurt that teenagers would have to experience by leading a life as superheroes. The three main characters of the pilot are going to be Dick Grayson, Raven and Starfire! They all get introduced very well and have fleshed out backstories (for example Dick hates Batman and left Gotham behind to not become like his former mentor).
The violence will be quite real, with bones snapping, bullet wounds and such, but at the same time the show won't be super realistic and will showcase the superpowers of characters like Starfire in pure comic style.
I think all of that sound pretty fantastic and already knowing that the Doom Patrol live action show will actually be a spin off of the Titans episode 4, shows already the potential for a quickly expanding live action series universe on the DC universe streaming service! I, as a die hard DC fan can't wait for this. This sounds almost too good to be true!
Jeremy Irons Cast For Watchmen TV Show
The HBO produced Watchmen TV show has been shooting for a few weeks already. Now we have another round of casting announcements for the hotly debated and highly anticipated DC Comics show!
Jeremy Irons as... a character referred to as Mr. Blond in the casting documents. That name is probably only used to hide the true nature of the role... which I hope will be that of an aged Ozimandias, Adrian Veidt, himself! Read on for the character description, coming from the Hashtag Show:
"highly intelligent and won’t let you forget it. Think William Hurt with slight Asperger’s. He’s used to being obeyed and always correct. Arrogant, erudite and patrician. Physically fit, he’s never missed a workout in his life.”
Yeah. If that's not Adrian Veidt, who Irons would be PERFECT casting for, I will eat my Absolute Edition of Watchmen (don't hold me to that. Absolute Editions are made to be revered and not eaten)!
I, for one, cannot wait to learn more about this project, as the only thing we do know about it is that it is set in our time, in a world where the happenings of the Watchmen actually happened in the 80s. We don't know what characters (if any) will return or what the story will be... but I think that makes it only more exciting. Damon Lindelof (Lost, The Leftovers) is the showrunner and producer.
