Matt Reeves Talks Batman Solo Film
After the whole back and forth and the "will he-won't he" business with Affleck directing and writing the Batman solo film, last February it was finally announced that War of the Planet of The Apes director Matt Reeves would be taking over for him. Since then we only got more back and forth about Affleck maybe playing Batman still, or maybe being recast, but during the recent TCA summer press tour Reeves made some comments about the long gestating film to /Film. He also commented on recent rumors on the film being an adaptation of Year One.
“We’re not doing any particular [comic]. Year One is one of the many comic books that I love. We are definitely not doing Year One. It’s just exciting to be focused very specifically on a tale that is defining for him and very personal to him. Obviously we’re not doing an origin tale or anything like that. We’re doing a story that is definitively Batman though and trying to tell a story that’s emotional and yet is really about him being the world’s greatest detective and all the things that for me, since I was a kid, made me love Batman.”
“I’ve talked about making it a very point of view noir-driven definitive Batman story in which he is investigating a particular case and that takes us out into the world of Gotham. I went on a deep dive again revisiting all my favorite comics. Those all inform by osmosis. There’s no continuation of the Nolan films. It’s very much trying to find a way to do this as something that for me is going to be definitively Batman and new and cool.”
Reeves also explained that "We are working on getting our draft [in] the next couple weeks,” and that the film will probably start shooting "in the spring or early summer" of 2019.
He also clarified that the movie will remain a part of the shared DC on screen universe.
“There are ways in which all of this connects to DC, to the DC universe as well. We’re one piece of many pieces, so I don’t want to comment on that except to say that I’m focused very specifically on this aspect of the DC world.”
When he was asked about the whole Affleck situation and if the actor will reprise his role as Batman in the solo film, Reeves kinda dodged the question a little, but then said they were still in contact.
I really feel this is just him doing damage control, because announcing that Affleck is out before they have a new actor to announce in the role wouldn't be a good PR move. I am almost 100% sure we won't see Affleck outside of maybe a small cameo as Batman ever again. After his "performance" in JL I am pretty fine with that.
Overall the new Batman movie has me excited, because so far I love everything Matt Reeves said. Can't wait for this one.
New Venom Trailer
Check out the newest trailer of the Venom movie above! It finally shows us a LOT of symbiote action... for better or worse.
We finally also get a look at the villains of the film... Riot and other symbiotes, probably from the Lethal Protector arc.
As much as I wanna root for this film... and I am a big Spider-man/Venom fan, plus a HUGE Tom Hardy fan... but the more I see, the more it seems to me like a money grab by Sony. The removal of Spider-Man from the story (according to an interview at SDCC the universe in which this movie takes place there exists no Spider-Man) is just a bad idea to me. I also don't understand for what accent Hardy is going here... or who thought that a line line "... like a turd in the wind" was a good idea.^^
Well... I will still check it out in theatres when it is out. Hopefully it will be better than I think.
Cavill And Levy Talk Superman vs Shazam
During his appearance at SDCC'18 Shazam actor Zachary Levy was asked by Yahoo how the fight Batman vs Superman would end up changing when you introduce Shazam into the mix.
"Well, if it’s three guys fighting, Batman has a chance. Because Shazam and Superman are going to focus on each other. And that’s when Batman gets all his sneaky stuff in."
He and the rest of the cast agree that Batman alone wouldn't have a chance against Shazam, because he doesn't have a weakness like Superman's kryptonite.
On the fight Superman vs. Shazam they were also very sure of their movie's hero.
"Shazam is magic. So I think we’re team Shazam."
Yahoo followed up with Henry Cavill on these questions when they met him during the press tour for Mission Impossible Fallout.
"Superman isn’t going to just be beating up Shazam. He’s not. And Shazam is basically just a big kid. So he’s not going to be beating up Superman. He’s a huge fan of Superman, for one. But Supes is seriously quick. I think it’s whoever gets the jump on the other. It’s situational."
I like these kind of discussions a lot and especially when you then see that some of the actors really did their homework.
I actually think Superman takes the fight, since when it comes down to it, Supes is just faster and stronger. The weakness to magic has been exaggerated in recent years by the fans, but what it actually means is that Superman isn't as indestructible against magic as he is against normal harm. It's not like kryptonite for him, plus he fought plenty of magic combatants in his career, I don't think it would be a huge problem.
