We have a Batwoman on the CW, news on Aquaman and Venom, plus a new Flash suit for Season 5 on the CW! Check it out!
Aquaman Won't Feature JL Cameos
As always with these modern, shared universe movies, one of the big questions for hardcore fans is "will there be a cameo of another character I love?".
We have been very fortunate to see the whole of the Justice League in Batman v Superman, or Tony Stark in Spider-Man Homecoming, so obviously fans want more of these moments.
Aquaman director James Wan (who also directed the first two Insidious movies, the first Saw, both Conjuring films and a Fast & Furious) answered that question while talking to Entertainment Weekly about the aquatic superhero movie.
"I wanted to keep the story to the world of Aquaman and not have to worry about what other characters are doing in their films and how that would affect us. I just thought the simplest way was to keep it clean — keep it simple and let it be an Aquaman story."
All things considered this makes a lot of sense, even tho I wouldn't mind seeing a quick CGI montage of JL characters reacting towards an attack from Atlantis on the surface (IF that happens)... like Superman stopping a tidal wave in Metropolis, or something... but this is Arthur's story so keeping the focus on him is the right decision. Plus he already met all these guys, so there is no immediate need for it, especially since the JL movie was the last one out from DC before Aquaman.
New Venom Image Plus PG13 Rating
According to Variety Sony decided to add reshoots for Venom, to make sure the film will achieve the PG13 rating, which seems weird after hearing a lot about Venom chomping heads and such. Well, apparently that is a pure money decision, since Sony is hoping Marvel will be impressed by the film and might allow them to fold into the MCU at a later date, which they would probably never allow if Sony did an R rated film. To be honest, I don't see Marvel wanting to share their 10 year old shared universe with Sony either way, no matter the quality or rating of the movie.
Entertainment Weekly also caught up with Tom Hardy who talked a little bit about Eddie's and the Symbiote's relationship in the film.
“They’re a bit lost in this world, and finding each other and negotiating an ethical framework is perhaps a gift and a burden for the two of them. They bring out the very best and the very worst in each other.”
Ruby Rose Is Batwoman On The CW
A few months ago it had been announced that Batwoman would be introduced into the CW DC universe and now we have our actress: Ruby Rose from Orange Is The New Black, The Meg and John Wick 2. You can see a manip of her in the suit done by Royy_Ledger above to get an idea of how she might end up looking, sans cowl.
The actress confirmed the casting via her Instagram account.
“I am beyond thrilled and honored. I’m also an emotional wreck, because this is a childhood dream. This is something I would have died to have seen on TV when I was a young member of the LGBT community who never felt represented on tv and felt alone and different.”
I really think this is almost perfect casting, as Kate Kane is a tattooed, punk rock-esque, military background, short haired badass, who will be played by Ruby, who is everything above, except the military background.
I really have to admit that my interest in the CW version of the DC universe was starting to lose my interest, after the last seasons of Supergirl, Flash and Legends have been borderline unwatchable for me personally (Arrow was actually pretty good again), but FINALLY introducing Gotham based characters actually gets me back. Especially since Batwoman is expected to be introduced in this years crossover between the shows and then later get her own show in 2019. I am also very excited how they handle Batman now, since Bruce Wayne has been mentioned a few times already in the CW universe. With his cousin coming fully formed into this universe, its only a matter of time until we will see the Bat of Gotham himself.
New TV Flash Suit Officially Revealed
After a behind the scenes shot of the new Flash costume fro Grant Gustin in season 5 leaked online, Gustin had to fight off a lot of complains and body shaming, which again shows the shameful underbelly of the geek community.
Now Gustin revealed a full and official shot of the new suit, which you can check out above. He also took to Instagram to talk about the body shaming.
"I've had 20+ years of kids and adults telling me or my parents I was too thin. I've had my own journey of accepting it. But there's a double standard where it's ok to talk s* about a dudes body."
"I’m naturally thin, and my appetite is greatly affected by stress. Stress is something that ebbs and flows for me throughout a season. Thus, gaining weight is a challenge for me. I didn’t cast a slim actor as The Flash. I went to an audition for a role I never dreamed I’d actually book. But here I am five seasons later."
“[...]and other kids who are built like me and thinner than me should be able to feel the same way. Not only that, but they should be able to feel like THEY could be a superhero on tv or film or whatever it may be someday."
“I love the suit that has been designed for me, and I think when everyone sees it in its entirety, you will love it too."
“Things have been adjusted since that leaked shot was taken, and more things will continue to be adjusted until it feels right,”
I think he looks great in the suit and body shaming in any way, shape or form is just disgusting and something especially the geek community should be above.
