This week has more news about the Hellboy reboot, more autopsy results of Justice League, news about Black Panther going for the Oscar and DC TV news!
New Hellboy Image
Empire Magazine released a new look at 2019's Hellboy movie, which you can check out above. The Neil Marshall directed Hellboy will be a complete reboot, starring Stranger Thing's David Harbour as the titular character.
Neil Marshal also talked a little bit about the reboot and what fans should expect from it, in comparison with the older films.
"It was always a case of, ‘When in doubt, go back to the source material.’ Some of the stuff is pretty sick. More violent and more bloody. We weren’t making it with handcuffs on."
That's exactly what I want to hear, even when the recently leaked trailer seemed to be more funny and campy like the older movies We will see what Hellboy holds in stock for us in 2019!
Zack Snyder Shares Look at Darkseid From His Justice League Cut
It's been over a year since Justice League was released into theatres and only did mediocre numbers at the box office. Original director Zack Snyder (300, Watchmen, Man of Steel, Batman v Superman) was let go from the project during post production due to the negative backlash to BvS a year before and Joss Whedon was brought on to "save" the movie, but cut it to ribbons in the process.
This is all old news and who knows if a Snyder Cut really exists, or if it would've been better than what Whedon did (I bet my butt on it though, as someone who loves everything Snyder did, maybe apart from Sucker Punch) but it is pretty obvious when you watch the finished film that it is a Frankeinstein monster made out of probably 30% of what Synder did and 70% rushed reshoots and horrible last minute CGI.
In the last year Snyder shared a LOT of info and behind the scenes stuff about his version of the movie, which seems drastically different. The newest tidbit is a little look at Darkseid, probably the main bad guy of the DC universe and the original inspiration for the creation of Thanos, who apparently featured quite prominently into the Snyder cut of the film. This picture shows the new god as an old wall carving which Diana unearths when visiting the temple of the amazons in Greece.
Long story short, I enjoyed JL fine as it was, because it still had some cool scenes, but it was a far cry from what it could and should have been, so seeing those little pieces of stuff we missed is really interesting to me.
JK Simmons Probably Won't Return To Gordon Anytime Soon
Another victim of the handling of Justice League by the Warner Bros executives, is probably everything regarding the world of Batman established in that universe, as I highly doubt we will ever see those versions of Batman, Alfred or Gordon again, since Matt Reeve's probably wants to do a full on reboot with his solo film (which is just smart after the reception of JL). James Gordon actor JK Simmons, who actually was a great catch for Gordon, seems to agree somewhat.
"There are conversations going on, that I’m not going to make public. As far as I know, there’s no opportunity, in the immediate future, for me to do more Commissioner Gordon, but I continue to be optimistic that it will happen again."
I mean, maybe WB will bring the Justice League together again if Aquaman, Shazam and WW84 have been huge hits and they might bring Gordon back with them, but I highly doubt it. It's a shame, but that's what happens when you mismanage your franchise like this, WB!
Michael B Jordon Talks Black Panther Oscar Chances
Black Panther has been a HUGE success for Marvel and Disney earlier this year and brought diversity into the forefront of superhero movies. Now Marvel really would like to see Black Panther be the first Marvel movie to win mayor Oscars at the 2019 Academy Awards, so they put up the film for consideration to win an Oscar in EVERY category.
Now, while promoting his new movie Creed II to Essence, Killmonger actor Michael B Jordan was asked about Black Panther's Oscar chances.
"The movie has done such a great job, broke through so many glass ceilings, and made such an impact culturally and around the world. If the Academy chooses to recognize that project for all of those reasons that’s amazing icing on the cake, but I think what the movie has done so far is truly incredible and a win all its own. I felt so accomplished doing this movie, but it’s not up to me to validate the film. So the people who make those decisions, that’s something they have to think about and figure out on their own."
As fun as the movie was, I really feel big Oscars (like Best Movie, Best Actor, Best Director etc), are be aiming a little high for the film, which wasn't significantly more well made than other MCU movies. Just because a movie is a fan favorite, doesn't mean it should win an Oscar. Nominations, however, are probably very realistic for Black Panther and Oscars for things like make up and costumes and the like.
Another trailer for the CW's DC shows crossover, called Elsworlds, has dropped online and you can check it out above!
The crossover will be between TV series Arrow, Flash and Supergirl, with characters like Batwoman, Superman and more showing up as well! Can't wait! Only a few more weeks!
