This week we are talking about Spider-Verse sequels/spin-offs, my thoughts on Aquaman, Jason Momoa talking about Henry Cavill not leaving Superman and more!
Titans Finale Trailer
The live action Titans TV show, streaming currently only on the DC Universe streaming app (soon worldwide on Netflix), has been a controversial show from the get go, when Dick Grayson uttered the words "Fuck Batman" in the first trailer. Now the trailer for the last episode will probably be even more controversial, as it seems to feature Batman going insane and starting to kill all Arkham inmates.
As people who have watched the show already (it is possible via VPN and with a DC Universe subscription), Titan's always throws a LOT of curveballs, so I don't think Batman fans who like the Dark Knight remain as unmurdery as possible have anything to worry about yet. Just trust me on this.
Check out the AWESOME trailer above (which btw does not spoil anything of the other episodes, so its even ok to watch when you haven't see a single episode yet). I just love these Batman fight scenes, which are amazing for a TV budget... only problem I have is the cheap looking cowl (looks like a rubber knock off Keaton cowl from 89).
Into The Spider-Verse Sequel And Spin-Offs
Into the Spider-Verse hit theatres last week and it is truly a blast for the whole family! Easily one of the best animated movies of all time and maybe even the best Spider-Man movie ever! So yea, kind of a must see.
As great as the film is already doing money wise, it was clear that a sequel was inevitable. Writers Phil Lord and Chris Miller (Lego Movie, 21 + 22 Jump Street) talked a little bit to Cinema Blend about their thoughts on the sequel and what Spider-Characters they would like to see.
"This is not a promise at all. There's tons of the, you know, Spider-diaspora that are out there... I'd be really psyched to see Silk do something and really psyched to be Spider-Punk. I just think, aesthetically, the thing you in a movie with that would be amazing. I wouldn't mind Japanese Spider-Man,"
Sony also already announced there will be a spin-off for the film, featuring a team of Spider-Women (or Spider-Girls), probably with Spider-Woman, Spider-Gwen and Silk. It remains to be seen if that really means two different movies, or if the sequel will actually feature the all girl team.
I really hope to see Spider-Man 2099!
Aquaman, was amazingly fun! Imagine Man of Steel meets Lord of the Rings, meets 80s/90s romcom, meets Blade Runner, meets Pirates of the Caribbean and I really loved it.
Is it perfect? No.
Is it a deep, thoughtful movie? No.
Is it a stunning, fun, still meaningful, touching ride, that does more world building than most film series do in a full trilogy? You betcha!
It is stunning on a visual level that would make Zack Synder proud, the score was the best non Hans Zimmer score of any DC movie ever and the story is basic, but absolutely wonderful realised and acted. The movie had me tear up at two points, especially the love stories between Arthur's parents and Arthur and Mera REALLY work. Arthur and Mera's relationship is very much like the rom coms of old. Think Tom Hank and Meg Ryan. I quite liked that, because they didn't sex it up, but played the relationship very sweet with loads of bantering.
Jason Momoa delivered a career best performance in this film and was really layered and not just only a tough badass, like he often portrays. The villains are great too. Patrick Wilson owns as Orm, but Black Manta is an absolute scene stealer. He is barely in the film tho. Think Joker in Suicide Squad. It works tho. This is more his origin of why he hates Arthur, so it made sense.
Nicole Kidman's Atlanna is spellbinding and just beautiful as all hell and even Willem Dafoe reminded me of how much I like to see him in these type of movies. So what's not so good about it:
Hell, most of the humor works, but 2 or 3 "MCU at its worst" type of jokes have snuck into this, which people probably know I am not a fan of. You'll see what I mean instantly when they happen, especially a toilet joke in the midst of an action scene made me groan a bit. In the grand scheme that was less than I expected and if you don't mind that stuff or like it it won't be a problem. Next to those few weird humor bits, I was stunned at the poor decision to include a song by PITBULL into the film unironically. They overall use a few pop songs to absolutely kitshy effort in this film, but most of them do work for what they want to achieve by using them.
For me, Aquaman was the best superhero movie of the year (followed by Spider-Verse and Avengers). If this is the future of the DCEU tonally, I am pretty happy, event ho I will always miss the ultra serious approach of MoS and BvS.
The movie worked so well for me, I would be absolutely down for director James Wan to do JL 2 in a few years. He really nailed a more mainstream balance between seriousness and fun and I am very excited to see more. Let's hope Shazam delivers as well and we should be off to a nice boost for the DCEU.
Jason Momoa Shuts Down Henry Cavill Leaving Superman Rumors
According to rumors it has been in question if we will ever see Henry Cavill suit up as Superman again in the future. The rumors even went so far as to say that Henry left the role behind, a couple of weeks back. The actor himself only reacted to that with a cryptic video featuring him in a Kryptonian Lifting Team shirt, holding up a Superman figure to the camera for a few seconds, but fear not, DC fans... Aquaman is here to save us.

According to Entertainment Tonight, Jason Momoa shut those rumors down HARD at the premiere for his solo Aquaman movie. The video above shows the end of his answers, but this was his full response, which wasn't entirely caught on tape.
“I just talked to Henry… He’s absolutely not [leaving the character]. He loves the character, he’s not. 100 percent.”
This is music to my ears, as a Henry Superman die hard. I also love how aggressively Momoa shuts down the rumor. Definitely a team player.
